Your roadmap

Spanish levels as per CEFR

Six clear stages — from your first words to complete mastery.

A1 Beginner A2 Elementary B1 Intermediate B2 Upper-Int. C1 Advanced C2 Mastery

An international benchmark for describing language proficiency is the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It rates language proficiency on a six-point scale, with A1 being the lowest and C2 being the highest for individuals who have mastered a language. Anyone involved in language learning and testing, including teachers and students, can easily see the degree of various qualifications thanks to this. Additionally, it implies that businesses and educational institutions can quickly compare our credentials to those of other national tests.

A1–A2 (Basic User)

At the A1 and A2 levels, learners develop the ability to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases commonly encountered in daily life. They learn to introduce themselves, provide personal information, ask and answer simple questions, and communicate their immediate needs. By the end of these levels, students can participate in routine interactions, engage in simple conversations, and manage common situations related to travel, shopping, family, work, and everyday activities with increasing confidence.

B1–B2 (Independent User)

At the B1 and B2 levels, learners become more independent and confident Spanish users. They can communicate effectively in social, travel, academic, and workplace situations, expressing their ideas with greater fluency and accuracy. Students develop the ability to understand the main ideas of more complex spoken and written texts, discuss experiences and future plans, and present opinions, arguments, and viewpoints clearly. These levels also introduce more professional and business-oriented communication, enabling learners to participate actively in meetings, presentations, and professional interactions.

C1–C2 (Proficient User)

At the C1 and C2 levels, learners achieve advanced to near-native proficiency in Spanish. They can communicate fluently, spontaneously, and accurately across a wide range of personal, academic, and professional contexts. Students develop the ability to understand complex texts, subtle meanings, idiomatic expressions, and culturally nuanced language. They can participate confidently in high-level discussions, negotiations, presentations, and professional environments while adapting their language appropriately to different audiences and situations. These levels prepare learners to function effectively in multicultural, academic, leadership, and international workplace settings.
